Waterloo, Ontario (July 5, 2011) – Systematix Incorporated today announced that it had secured an order from a major global automotive parts manufacturer valued at $2.0 M.  The order calls for the development of a large-scale lean automated production system for the manufacture of a complex new powertrain product.

“Our track record of engineering innovation in the lean manufacturing environment seems to have led this client to choose Systematix,” said Cecil Bauman, President and CEO. “We have worked with the client for a number of years, often providing successful factory automation solutions where others have failed. With this order, we will be well positioned to scale-up to a more fully automated solution as demand for this new product grows.”

“People are getting much smarter about applying lean principles to high tech manufacturing,” added Bauman. “They realize that teaming automation with lean processes is not a contradiction but rather just another way to solve production problems in an economic manner. This is especially true of low volume or prototype manufacturing environments. In these situations automation provides the ability to maximize product quality and yield, while manual activity provides the flexibility to process a wide variety of parts.”

Systematix’ lean production system will consist of part kitting to special transport carts, part staging and sub-assembly transfer through a number of semi-automated stations, and semi-automated testing of the final assemblies. The kitting process will be designed for error proofing (i.e., “poke-yoke”) while the multi-function assembly stations will be characterized by quick tooling change-over and auto-assist manipulation of the heavy final assemblies. A supervisory control system will track production parameters and provide step-by-step assembly work instructions and station-to-station data transfer.
