First Robotics Competition 2019 Season Updates
We have liftoff!
For the seventh season, SYSTEMATIX is an enthusiastic supporter of Sir Lancerbot – the First Robotics team 4917 from Elmira District Secondary School.
The team qualified for the First Championship in Detroit, April 24-27 and will be competing in the Tesla division.
In the Ontario events, they placed 17th overall and took first place in North Bay in an alliance with Team 1305. They also received the Innovation in Control Award sponsored by Rockwell Automation at the University of Waterloo, and the Entrepreneurship Award at the provincial finals.
Here they are celebrating the North Bay.
The season kick-off was in early January and the 2019 theme and format was presented with a fun video animation called Destination: Deep Space.
Competitors had six weeks from kick-off to final product with the help of teachers and SYSTEMATIX mentors. You can see the design process on the Sir Lancerbot website.
First Robotics is a mash-up of technology, creativity and teamwork presented in a format that is part major sporting event, part rock concert and all fun! With teams from the U.S.A., Canada, Mexico and Israel competing in the 2019 season, it’s also a testament to how public, private and international cooperation can enrich the educational experience of thousands of young people.
Major corporate sponsors include Boeing, Google, Rockwell Automation, GM, plus many more from large and small companies, schools, foundations and individuals. Also, through the First Alumni Scholarship program, $80 million in scholarships are granted by about 200 post-secondary institutions. This is a truly life changing association for our next generation of scientists, engineers, innovators and educators.
The home page of the First website says “Prepare to be Inspired”; you won’t be disappointed!
